Conference
Leveraging Learning 2017

November 1

Interactive STEM team members presented at the 2017 Leveraging Learning conference in Auburn, Maine. Through the Leveraging Learning conferences, the Auburn School Department helps participants learn how to design and implement an iPad initiative to customize student learning. This theme of this year’s conference, held Nov. 1 and 2, was “Beyond the Apps” – Effective models of iPad use in the classroom.

Interactive STEM presented two sessions at this year’s conference. Dr. Pam Buffington’s presentation—“Sustaining Effective iPad Device Implementation with a Collaborative Professional Learning Model”—described how to create and sustain a model of teacher professional learning to support effective classroom iPad device implementation. Colleen Henry and Lori Bowen, from Auburn School Department, co-presented with InteractiveSTEM researcher Peter Tierney-Fife. Their presentation—“Using iPad Devices to Support Math Discourse in K–3 Classrooms”—demonstrated strategies for teachers to support student engagement in rich, open math problems using flexible mathematics modeling, screencasting, and other apps to create and share dynamic mathematical work with both visual and spoken evidence.
